Panch Pokhari Trekking is a peculiarly designed trip that offers panoramic sceneries of the Nepal Himalayas. Panch Pokhari is situated at an elevation of 4100m, northeast of Kathmandu. Panch Pokhari refers to the five scared water lakes situated in the Nuwakot, Rasuwa, and Sindhupalchowk districts of the central
Himalayan region. Panch Pokhari is the 9 th altitude wetland in the world. Water discharged from the lakes flows as the Indrawati River i.e.one of the major tributaries of the Koshi River System.
The imposing mountain panorama and alluring natural beauty along with the incredible wetland, flora, and fauna make this a must-visit place.
The Panch Pokhari trek route goes through vibrant rhododendron forests, alpine pastures, terraced fields, picturesque remote villages, green rolling hills, and so on. This region carries significant cultural, religious, and ecological values.
The lake is a popular destination for both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. During the festival namely, Janai Purnima- which falls on the full moon day of the month of July- August, numerous numbers of pilgrims reach there to take a dip into the icy-cold water. It is believed that a bath in Panch Pokhari will wash away the bad karma
and turns into positive thoughts and pure spirit due to which devotees gather here.
You can find the two temples dedicated to lord Shiva nearby the pond, in the Panch Pokhari Vicinity.
The trekking trail passes through the authentic ethnic of the Sherpa and Tamang tribes and creates the opportunity to understand the lifestyle of the Himalayan people. Waterfalls, temples, alpine forests, beautiful landscapes, flora, and fauna make the trip more adventurous and exciting. Panch Pokhari Trek offers you a majestic view of Dorje Lakpa, Rolwaling Himal Range, Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Himal Range, Phurbi Chhyachu, Tibetan Himal Range, and Jugal Himal.
Panch Pokhari Trekking is the best option for those who have limited time and desire to be near the Himalayas.
BEST TIME FOR TREKKING
The best time for Panch Pokhari Trekking is the seasons of Spring and Autumn. Spring falls in the month of March-May whereas autumn falls in the month of September-November. During this time a climate is a moderate amount of sunshine and there will be less precipitation. You will experience the breathtaking sight of the massif.
In winter, December- January you can also attempt trekking in Panch Pokhari, but you need to have the appropriate gear to deal with the cold and snow. The weather might be a bit harsh as it can also cause heavy snowfall.
If you want to be part of the Janai Purnima festivities you can plan to visit accordingly to the full moon in August.
TREK DIFFICULTY
Panch Pokhari Trek is considered a moderate type of trek. This area is relatively unexplored and less visited due to which the area is uninhabited which leads to some difficulties in accommodation facilities. And also, the area is nestled in an elevation of 4000m which may cause getting chances of altitude sickness. The proper precaution and medication help to mitigate those problems. The winter and summer seasons are suggested not to trek there because of months of monsoon and geographical risks. During monsoons, the mountain terrains are prone to landslides and avalanches.
