Langtang Village was one of the most affected areas during the 2015 earthquake, wiping out the entire settlement. Trekking in this area will surely aid the villagers in rebuilding their lives.
Langtang Village after the Earthquake 2015:
During the 2015 earthquake, Langtang Village was destroyed. The earthquake poured the giant boulders of the glacier and the entire frozen lake dropping over the village. An estimated 40 million tons of rock and ice from sky towering cliffs created a blast of wind so powerful that its pressure wiped out the ancient old trees miles away across the river.
It took the lives of 243 people in a small village. There is a memorial mani wall dedicated to the lost ones a little further from the old village with their names listed on the plaques.
Today the village has been resettled just a little further from the location with new lodges as a source of income with high hopes to start their living again. The pain remains, but the locals await travelers to welcome their new home with a big smile.
The locals did receive aid, but because of the lack of proper management, it was barely received by the actual victims. So traveling to Langtang Trek is a good idea that will not only help you fulfill your travel desire but will also aid the locals.
